Free APSRTC Bus Travel for Pilgrims in Tirumala to End Overcharging by Private Operators

In a major step to support pilgrims, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) announced that free APSRTC bus travel in Tirumala will soon be available to all devotees. This move is aimed at ending the monopoly of private operators and ensuring safe, affordable, and accessible transportation within the temple town.

🚌 Why This Move Was Introduced

TTD Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao said the decision was taken after receiving numerous complaints from devotees about excessive fares charged by private taxis for short trips within Tirumala.

Until now, APSRTC buses primarily connected Tirupati with Tirumala’s central bus station. But these services were limited and often left pilgrims reliant on private vehicles for local movement. With this initiative, pilgrims can now travel free of cost across key locations within Tirumala using APSRTC-operated buses.

  • TTD Cottages
  • Annadanam Halls
  • GNC Tollgate
  • Bus Stand – CRO Office

These routes are designed to provide complete coverage for pilgrim movement from accommodation to temples and other amenities.

🚍 Phase-wise Rollout of 150 Buses

  • 150 APSRTC buses will be deployed in the first phase, ensuring high frequency and timely service.
  • TTD already operates free electric buses, and this new fleet will greatly reduce dependency on private autos and cabs.
  • The service will be available completely free of cost for all pilgrims visiting Tirumala.

🛕 New TTD Temple Management Wing

Apart from the transport announcement, EO J. Shyamala Rao also revealed that:

  • TTD owns 61 temples and cultural properties across India.
  • A special administrative wing will soon be created to manage, protect, and operate these religious centers.
  • Dedicated officers will be appointed to ensure regular maintenance and spiritual programs at these temples.
