TTD Introduces RFID-Based Footwear Management System in Tirumala
The Challenge of Unclaimed Footwear
With thousands of devotees visiting the Tirumala temple daily, managing the vast number of footwear items has been a persistent challenge. Many devotees either forget to collect their footwear or face difficulties locating them, leading to a significant accumulation of unclaimed items. Previously, these unclaimed footwear items were collected and disposed of, often ending up as waste.
Implementation of RFID Technology
To address this issue, TTD has introduced a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system at select footwear deposit centers. Under this system, each pair of footwear is tagged with an RFID chip containing a unique identification number. Devotees receive a corresponding token, allowing for easy retrieval of their footwear after darshan. This technology ensures accurate tracking and minimizes the chances of misplacement.
Benefits for Devotees and TTD
- Efficient Retrieval: Devotees can quickly and easily retrieve their footwear without confusion.
- Reduced Waste: The system significantly decreases the number of unclaimed footwear items, promoting sustainability.
- Enhanced Organization: TTD staff can manage footwear deposits more effectively, ensuring a smoother experience for all.
Future Plans and Expansion
Following the successful implementation of the RFID system at initial centers, TTD plans to expand this technology to all footwear deposit points across Tirumala. This move aligns with TTD’s broader vision of integrating technology to enhance devotee services and maintain the sanctity of the temple premises.
