The much-awaited seaplane services in Tirupati are all set to begin soon, offering a new way to travel to the spiritual capital of Andhra Pradesh. Under the Union government’s UDAN scheme, this service is being introduced to boost tourism and improve regional air connectivity.


🛩️ What We Know About Seaplane Services in Tirupati

  • Location Chosen: The Kalyani Dam near Tirupati has been selected for the water aerodrome.
  • Purpose: This move is aimed at connecting pilgrim and tourism spots with fast and scenic travel options.
  • Trial Run: A successful test was already conducted earlier from Vijayawada to Srisailam, which has encouraged fast-tracking of the Tirupati route.
  • Consultant Appointed: Feedback Highways has been given the responsibility to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Tirupati seaplane service.

  • Spiritual Hub: Tirupati attracts lakhs of pilgrims every month visiting the famous Lord Venkateswara Temple.
  • Proximity to Airport: Tirupati already has a well-connected airport, making it easier to integrate seaplane connectivity.
  • Tourism Potential: Apart from Tirumala, places like Kapila Theertham, Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple, and Chandragiri Fort make Tirupati a hotspot for visitors.

  • DPR Preparation: The project is in the planning stage with DPR preparation underway.
  • Government Support: The project is backed by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.
  • Expected Launch: After infrastructure is developed, seaplane services may begin in phases by late 2025 or early 2026.
